Virtual Legal Services: Frequently Asked Questions 
 

The estate planning process starts with your consultation with an attorney. After the consultation, our team will prepare a draft of your plan and deliver this through the client portal. Once you have reviewed the drafts, an attorney will meet with you via Zoom for a review meeting. The review meeting is for answering any questions about the drafts and going over requested changes. Once you provide final approval of your drafts, our office will schedule your virtual signing conference. Virtual estate planning allows you to go through the entire process without having to leave home.

Sekhon Law, PLLC serves Washingtonians statewide. This is because we offer legal services virtually.

How do I securely store my electronic will?

As of January 1, 2022, there are new requirements regarding custodianship of electronic wills. RCW 11.12.460. Sekhon Law, PLLC will act as custodian of the original electronic last will and testament. Clients will be provided with a copy to keep on file. 

Is virtual estate planning right for me?

Virtual estate planning can be a great fit for you if you would like the input and guidance of a licensed attorney and are comfortable using technology. Virtual estate planning is also a great option for those who would like to save some time. No driving and looking for parking required. 

What is a virtual signing conference?

One you have provided final approval of your estate planning drafts, it's time for the virtual signing conference. Before the signing conference, you will receive an identity verification quiz. The virtual notary will then provide instruction on how to attend the signing conference virtually. Witnesses will also attend virtually to watch you sign your estate plan per the requirements of RCW 11.12.440. All of this happens without having to leave home! 

How long does the process take?

From start to finish, the average length of time is two months. However, this can vary depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
